Death Certificate
1). In case of death of an Indian national, get the contact details of the nearest of Kin (parent or family) in India and passport no of deceased.
2). Inform the parents (family members) of the deceased & nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate with his/her passport no and company/university details.

Case where the mortal remains are to be taken to India
1). Family or their representative may contact the agency “Babaoshan” at their contact Nos 13601016304, 13699239722 & 13811628128 or M/S Shanghai Bohong Shipping Co. Ltd. at their contact no. (+86)-2136080098 and E-Mail general@bohongshipping.com, who operates in all the areas of China to provide the services, related to transportation of mortal remains.
2). The parents (family) should be advised to nominate a person on their behalf to carry out all the formalities in China, if they are unable to come to the foreign country to take over the mortal remain. In this case an AFFIDAVIT (on stamp paper) may be made in India and scanned copy may be faxed/mailed immediately to the authorised person. The original copy may be sent by courier in due course. Format as per Annexure-A
3). If required, get a Consent Letter from the parents (family) that post-mortem of the body is not required and whatever reason given by the Chinese Authority will be acceptable to them. Send a copy of the letter to the Embassy.
4). Parents (family) has to authorize a person to collect the mortal remains at the Indian Airport on their behalf. A copy of the ID card (Passport, Aadhar card, Voter ID or any photo ID card) should be mailed to authorised representative in China. Send a copy of the authority to the Embassy. Format as per Annexure-B
5). The Employer/University Authority/Authorised person will inform the Insurance Company (if any).
6). The Employer/University Authority/Authorised person will nominate a Transporter (in consultation with Insurance Company, if any). Send a copy to the same to the Embassy/Consulates
7). All negotiation regarding transportation of the mortal remains to India, cost, date of transportation etc. will be done by the Employer/University Authority/authorised person.
8). Get the FIR copy from the Public security Bureau, if applicable
9). Transportation of mortal remains takes around 25-30 days in cases where the death is owing to natural causes. However, in cases where the death is owing to unnatural causes such as murder, suicide etc. it is anticipated to take around 45 days for the transportation of mortal remains since it involves investigation by the Public Security Bureau concerned.
10). Insist the Transporter to complete the formalities of Embalming, Encoffining & Quarantine of the mortal remains as soon as possible. And get these THREE certificates (Embalming, Encoffining & Quarantine) from the Transporter in Original
11). Insist the Transporter to book an Air Ticket to India for the earliest possible date for transportation. Get a copy of the Ticket or detailed information (date of transportation, Flight No, Time of Departure, Originating & Destination Airport). Transporter has to provide Exit Permit for the body
12). For transportation of mortal remains to India, authorised person needs to obtain the documents as mentioned below and provide to Embassy for Cancellation of passport of the deceased and issue of “Death Certificate and NOC”. If the company of the deceased is handling all the issues related to transportation of remain, they should arrange and provide to Embassy/Consuates the same.

Case where the mortal remains are to be cremated in China and bone ash taken to India
1). If the family members themselves are not coming to China for cremation, they should authorise/nominate a person on their behalf to carry out the cremation and other formalities in China. In this case an AFFIDAVIT (in stamp paper) may be made in India and scanned copy may be faxed/mailed immediately to the authorised person. The original copy may be courier in due course. Format as per Annexure-A
