Ambassador Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Kunming for the Seminar on ‘Investment opportunities in India’-19th March, 2012

Ambassador Dr. S. Jaishankar led a delegation of Embassy officials and Indian business representatives for a Seminar on ‘Investment opportunities in India’ at Kunming on March 19, 2012.The Seminar was organized by the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou in partnership with Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province. The Seminar was supported by the India Chamber of Commerce, Kolkata, Invest India, Yunnan Provincial Industry & Information Technology Commission, China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Yunnan Sub-Council and Yunnan Provincial Federation of Industry & Commerce.

The key objective of the Seminar was to encourage Chinese enterprises to look at India as an investment destination. The Seminar focused on projecting the potential for FDI in various sectors in India, India’s policy for attracting FDI and basic laws and regulations applicable to FDI in India. During the Seminar, presentations were made about:

(i) Investment opportunities in India in various sectors;
(ii) India’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Policy;
(iii) Facilities available in Special Economic Zones of India for foreign direct investment;
(iv) Basic Taxation and Company Law Legislations in India as applicable to foreign direct investment;
(v) Financing options for foreign investors in India;
(vi) India’s policies for business, employment and project visas;
(vii) Experience of Chinese enterprises, which have already made investments in India.

On March 19, 2012, the Vice-Governor Yunnan Province H.E. Mr. Gu Zhaoxi also hosted a banquet for the Indian delegation.
