World Hindi Day is celebrated across the world on 10 January

On this occasion, Deputy Chief of the Indian Mission in China, Sh. Rahul Chhabra talked about the abiding relevance of Hindi language in the 21st century. While reading out the Prime Minister of India, Sh. Manmohan Singh's message to the assembled gathering, he stressed the critical role being played by Hindi language in as a bridge between India and rest of the world.

There were several competitions like Hindi Debates, elocution and poetry recitation competitions organised by the Indian Embassy on this occasion. Chinese student from prestigious Chinese universities like Peking University, China Foreign Affairs University and China Communications University participated in the contests.
Separate competitions were organised for the Indian Diaspora in China which also saw a turn-out in large numbers.

A Musical Recital on 'Hindi Vandana' by Indian students of Culture Wing
A brief cultural programme, featuring Chinese students of the Indian Embassy Cultural Centre, and displaying several facets of Indian classical dance and music, was also put up on this occasion. The students from Peking University who recently travelled to India to participate in advanced Hindi learning courses at the Central Hindi Research Institute in Delhi made a short audio-visual presentation of their experiences in India.

Famous Chinese journalists working in the field of Hindi broadcast journalism in China via the medium of institutions like China Radio International, also shared their experiences of learning, teaching and then reporting in Hindi.

Ms. Kripalani works for China Radio International and has been actively involved in taking Hindi classes at the Indian Embassy Culture Centre, which are rapidly gaining in popularity.
At the culmination of the programme, Sh. Rahul Chhabra awarded certificates of merit to all the winners of the various competitions.
The evening's programme culminated with a round of Indian snacks for all the assembled guests.
