Ladies and Gentlemen

Welcome to the Second edition of the “India Promotion Week” being organized by the famous Japanese Departmental Store – Ito Yokado with the support of the Indian Embassy in Beijing. This year’s festivities associated with the “India Promotion Week” are being organized in a total of seven stores of Ito Yokado all over Beijing from May 13 to 20.

In 2011, we had successfully organized the “India Promotion Week” together with Ito Yokado in Chengdu and Beijing and are hopeful that this year’s events in Beijing will exceed in scale, impact and the success achieved last year. We are happy to note that the store promoters feel that there is a niche market in China for Indian apparels and accessories. To add to the India flavor, we will be presenting you today a combination of Indian dance and music performances, saree show and demonstration of the Indian art of mehndi or palm painting. We will also be showcasing Indian apparels and accessories through a fashion show. Also on display at the store will be promotional material on India Tourism. In other words, we are inviting you to a culture sojourn of India and we are confident that you will find yourself immersed in the vibrant spectacle of compelling colour and music that will leave you with an unforgettable experience of incredible India.

We would also like to inform you that year 2012 is being celebrated as the “India-China Year of Friendship and Cooperation” and the “India Promotion Week” would be the first among the many activities that the Trade and Commerce Wing of the Embassy is planning this year.

We would like to express our gratitude to Ito Yokado for coming up with this wonderful concept. We hope our association with Ito Yokado will further strengthen with this year’s events and lay the foundation for greater promotion of India-China economic cooperation in the coming years.
