Press Release - 66th Independence Day celebrations at Embassy of India, Beijing

On 15 Aug 2012, Embassy of India in Beijing celebrated India’s 66th Independence Day. This marked the first time that the function was being celebrated in the newly built Embassy premises in China, inaugurated by the Hon’ble External Affairs Minister, Sh. S.M. Krishna in Feb this year.

This function saw widespread participation by members of the Indian community and local Chinese guests. The event began with the unfurling of the national flag by Hon’ble Ambassador of India to China, HE Dr. S. Jaishankar. This was followed by the singing of the national anthem by the choir of the culture wing of the Embassy, in which the members of the Indian community participated as well.

After the playing of the national anthem, Ambassador Dr. S. Jaishankar read out the the Hon’ble President of India’s address to the nation. While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jaishankar conveyed the best wishes of the Embassy and also expressed his happiness at the growing ranks of the Indian Diaspora in China. The programme culminated with the serving of a round of Indian delicacies to the assembled guests.
