The Consulate General of India in Shanghai, inassociation with the Shanghai Chemical and Petroleum Industry Association organizeda Seminar to-day for promotion of “Petroleum, Chemicals and PetrochemicalsInvestment Regions (PCPIRs)”. The Seminar was also used to promote “India-Chem2014” which is scheduled to be held in Mumbai during October 09-11, 2014.

Close to 70 participants including seniorrepresentatives of the Shanghai Chemical Industry & potential Chinese investorsattended the Seminar. A delegation from the Ministry of Chemicals,Petrochemicals & Fertilizers led by Mr. Indrajit Pal, Secretary, Departmentof Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Government of India participated in theSeminar. The seminar was also attended by representatives of FICCI and CIPIET.

Consul General presented an overview ofIndia-China bilateral economic relations and invited Chinese chemicalmanufacturers to consider investing in India. In this context, he emphasizedinvestment in India’s existing PCPIRs or setting up new industrial parks, asboth India and China promote cluster-type development of enterprises.

Mr. Jin Ming Da, President of the ShanghaiChemical and Petroleum Industry Association addressed the participants of theSeminar and gave an overview of the Shanghai Chemical Industry and ChineseChemical Manufacturers. He deliberatedon the potential sectors of cooperation and emphasized for further strengtheningof the same through investment by Chinese companies in India

Mr. Pal made a detailed presentation highlightingthe facilities available in existing PCPIRs, the incentives that Government ofIndia offers and the potential avenues of cooperation.

In his presentation Mr. Balwinder Singh Sawhneyfrom FICCI provided detailed information on the India-Chem 2014 exhibition andencouraged the representatives of Shanghai Chemical Industry to participate inlarge number in the event. He proposedthe setting up of a “China Pavilion” in the exhibition and assured full support& cooperation of FICCI in this regard.
