Press Release: Round Table Meeting on Investing in India’s SEZ

1. Embassy of India, Beijing in association with China Top 500 Foreign Trade Enterprises Club organized a Roundtable Meeting on ‘Investing in Indian SEZs’ on 16th April 2014. The meeting was attended by a nine-member delegation from Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Export Promotion Council for EOUs and SEZs led by Mr Rajeev Arora, Joint Secretary (SEZ), Department of Commerce. Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha and Mr Zhao Yan, Executive Chairman of China Top 500 Foreign Trade Enterprises Club also attended the meeting.

2. Ambassador Kantha in his keynote remarks highlighted that the overall FDI climate in India is welcoming and the size of Indian market and its current stage of development makes India a natural destination. He further said that a Chinese presence that creates employment, improves technology levels and expands capacity fits well with India’s National Manufacturing Policy and that the larger flows of Foreign Direct Investment from China into India will be one of the ways of addressing the trade deficit.

3. Mr Rajeev Arora, Joint Secretary (SEZ) explained in detail the SEZ policy of India and underlined the benefits that the foreign enterprises can avail of by bringing in their investments.

4. The meeting was attended by close to 30 Chinese companies that are amongst the 500 largest foreign trade enterprises in China.
