H.E. Mr. Ashok K. Kantha, Ambassador of India today inaugurated the Yoga Festival which is being organized as part of“Glimpses of India Festival’ from 19th to 22nd July at the Yogi Yoga Center.

Speaking on the opening ceremony, Indian Ambassador to China Mr. Ashok K Kantha highlighted the importance of Yoga and traced its long history. He also said the Yoga festival is a platform where one can directly learn from the Masters of this practice and to engage in a dialogue that will help disperse all the doubts of the practitioners and helping them align with the roots of this ancient Indian practice. He said that purpose of organizing the Yoga Festival is to popularize Yoga in China with Indian traditions.

The opening ceremony of the Yoga Festival was held today on July 19, 2014. More than 500 Yoga Practitioners are participating in the Yoga Festival. The event is organized by Embassy of India in partnership with Departmen tof AYUSH, Government of India and Yogi Yoga Center.

The four day Yoga festival will have Workshop on Stress Management, Obesity, Back pain and Neck pain and Diabetes besides session on general yoga training and meditation.

Teachers from India Dr. Ishwar Acharya and Shri Yogi Udai from Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and Shri Vadirakja from Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy will be training the Chinese yoga enthusiast. The teachers have come to Beijing after organizing a four day Yoga Workshop in Shanghai from 14th-18th July 2014. Consulate General of India Guangzhou also organized the 2nd India-China Yoga Summit in Dali from 7th-12 July 2014 in which more than 1500 yoga enthusiast participated.

The year round Glimpses of India Festival is a cultural extravaganza organized by the Embassy of India, to mark 2014 as the Year of India-China Friendly Exchanges it will showcase a wide range of events including Indian performing art, visual and photographic exhibitions, Indian modern art, food festival, film festival as well as events involving eminent Indian &Chinese scholars & writers.This is done with a view to present the people of China a slice of India’s immense cultural heritage.
