Press Release MAKE IN INDIA SEMINAR AT CHONGQING

To familiarize potential investors with theopportunities and the priorities of the government, Embassy of India, Beijingorganized ‘Investing in India’ Seminar at Chongqing on 14th November, 2014 as part of the series of events planned under ‘Make in India’campaign, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 25 September 2014.

The business event was attended by more than 150representatives from 80 Chinese companies, chambers/association and officialsfrom the Chongqing Government. Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha addressed theparticipants underscoring the particular resonance of ‘Make in India’ initiativefor Chinese companies especially in infrastructure, automobiles, renewableenergy, pharma and IT sector. He highlighted the successful visit of PresidentXi Jinping to India in September, 2014 during which both governments laid emphasison boosting bilateral investment flows. Ambassador noted Chongqing's dynamicdevelopment as an economic and transportation hub of Southwest China. Heinvited companies from the region to invest in India including in upcomingChinese industrial parks in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The event was attended by Vice Mayor of ChongqingMr Chen Heping.

Emerging opportunities in the manufacturingsector and India’s industrial corridors were highlighted through a presentationby Counsellor Namgya Khampa. Thegovernment is taking up new projects and initiatives in this direction and iscommitted to removing all bottlenecks for developing India’s manufacturingsector and facilitating foreign investments. A handbook on the “Make in India’initiative was also disseminated at the event.

During his visit to Chongqing, AmbassadorAshok K. Kantha also met Mr. Sun Zhengcai, Secretary of Chongqing CPCCommittee and Member of the 18th CPC Central Committee Politburo at Chongqingon 14th November. They reviewed existing exchanges between India and Chongqingand discussed measures to further expand mutual cooperation in trade andinvestment, culture and tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
