The 66th Republic Day of India was celebrated in Beijing on 26th Jan 2015 at Hotel Marriott NE. In the morning, Ambassador unfurled the tricolour and read out the President’s speech. H.E. Mr. Liu Jianchao, Assistant Foreign Minister of China, was the guest of honour. The event was attended by a large number of guests from the government, business, media circles, and diplomatic community. The event was also graced by the presence of eminent Indologist and Sanskrit scholar, Professor Huang Baosheng, who has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri decoration by the President of India on the occasion of the 66th Republic Day.

In his address, Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha, remarked that India will leverage its 3D advantage of Democracy, Demography and market Demand to continue to play an active and constructive role in the comity of nations. He reiterated that the new government in Delhi attaches the highest priority to developing relations with China in an all-round manner. The year 2014 was marked by visits in both directions of the highest leadership, including the visit of the Hon’ble Vice President of India to China and the visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to India. The successful state visit of President Xi Jinping to India in September 2014 was characterized by an exceptional display of camaraderie between the leaders of our two countries. Prime Minister has already met President Xi Jinping thrice and Premier Li Keqiang once in the eight months since taking office. Ambassador announced that there are several important initiatives lined up for the year 2015 including the decision to jointly celebrate the “Visit India Year” in China in 2015 and the “Visit China Year” in India in 2016.

A cultural performance of classical Indian was also organized on the occasion.
