Press Release: Ambassador Ashok Kantha visits Shenyang

Ambassador AshokKantha visited Shenyang on 15-16 March 2015. He headed a delegationcomposed of officials from the Trade & Commerce wing of the Embassy andleading Indian chambers and companies including FICCI, Mahindra and State Bankof India.

Ambassador Kanthadelivered the keynote speech at an Investment Promotion Forum organized by theEmbassy’s Trade & Commerce Wing with Shenyang Municipal Government andLiaoning People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. TheForum drew participation from over 100 companies based out of Shenyang andLiaoning. The Make in India initiative of the government was the focus ofthe outreach in Shenyang, which is an established heavy industry base of Chinawith well-developed heavy machinery, auto & auto parts, electronics andequipment manufacturing industries.

Ambassadorhighlighted the opportunities for Shenyang and Liaoning based companies inIndia and identified six areas for enhanced collaboration. These are manufacturing, industrial parks and corridors, railways,renewable energy, urban infrastructure and smart city initiatives and jointR&D. Ms.Namgya Khampa, Counsellor (Trade & Commerce) made a detailed presentationon recent economic initiatives in manufacturing and investment, the sectoralpriorities under the Make in India campaign, and the recent announcement in the2015-16 Union Budget.

Ambassador Kanthamet with Mr. Pan Liguo, Mayor of Shenyang and Vice Governor of LiaoningProvince, Ms Sun Delan, Secretary-General of Liaoning People’s Association forFriendship with Foreign Countries and Mr Huang Kai, Vice Mayor of Shenyang andVice Director of Standing Committee of Shenyang Municipal People’s Congress, whilein Shenyang. Both sides agreed to strengthen economic, cultural andtourism links including by bringing Indian cultural and tourism events toLiaoning later in the year.
