Press Release: India - China consultations on disarmament, non-proliferation and Arms control

1. The first India-China consultations on disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control were held in Beijing today. The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary (D&ISA), Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill while the Chinese side was led by Director General Mr. Wang Qun of the Arms Control Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2. Discussions were cordial and substantive and covered all current items on the international disarmament and non-proliferation agenda,including export controls. The two sides agreed that this mechanism is an important new element in the bilateral dialogue architecture and decided to continue their fruitful discussions at the next round of consultations.

3. Joint Secretary Amandeep Singh Gill invited Director General Wang Qun to visit Delhi in early 2016 for the second India-China consultations on disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control. Director General Wang Qun thanked Joint Secretary Amandeep Singh Gill for the invitation and added that he looked forward to his visit.

4. In the afternoon, Joint Secretary Amandeep Singh Gill also had an interaction with scholars at the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association.
