India’s Participation in 3rd China-South Asia Expo in Kunming 11-16 June 2015

Gen. (Dr) V.K. Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs along with Mr Ding Shaoxiang, Vice Governor of Yunnan Province of China unveiled the plaque of India-China Yoga College in Yunnan Minzu University in Kunming on 13th June 2015. The Memorandum of Understanding for establishing the Yoga College was signed on 15 May 2015 during the visit of Prime Minister of India to China.

Minister of State for External Affairs while addressing the students and faculty of the Yunnan Minzu University highlighted the positive effects of yoga on body and mind. The unveiling ceremony was marked by display of yoga and taichi by the students of the university. The ceremony was also attended by Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha and Prof Lin Wenxun, President of Yunnan Minzu University.

On the same day, the Minister of State for External Affairs along with Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha and Mr Ding Shaoxiang, Vice Governor of Yunnan Province of China also unveiled the bust of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Yunnan University. The bust of Rabindranath Tagore is a present from Government of India to Yunnan University. The works of Asia’s first Nobel Laureate are widely read in China. In 2011, the Consulate General of India in Guangzhou in association with Yunnan University had also organized an exhibition of the paintings of Rabindranath Tagore to mark his 150th birth centenary.

Minister of State for External Affairs is visiting Kunming to attend the 3rd China-South Asia Expo in which India is the ‘theme country’.
