Press Release: E-auction of Red Sanders

A two-member delegation led by H.E. Mr A.K. Parida, Special Chief Secretary, Department of Environment, Forest, Science and Technology and Mr S.B.L, Mishra, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Government of Andhra Pradesh are visiting China from 13-19 December 2015, in connection with a Global tender of Red Sanders (Pterocarpus santalinus) Wood 2015 Phase V. A pre-bid meeting-cum-road show was organized in Beijing on 14th December 2015. While in Beijing the delegation also met with the CITES Officials under State Forestry Administration of People’s Republic of China to brief them on the Global Tender as well as the steps being taken by AP Government to protect red sanders forests. Andhra Pradesh Government will also be holding pre-bid meetings in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

To meet the international demand Andhra Pradesh is making efforts to supply the legal material to the international market, so that to reduce the pressure on the natural forests, to protect the red sanders forests, promote sustainable harvesting and control smuggling. Three phases of global tender for the sale of graded red sander wood in log form have been completed in 2014 and 2015.

A total of 2868 MT of red sanders wood has been notified for sale in Phase V.
