PRESS RELEASE Indian Northern Army Commander led Delegation Visits China

1. A six member high level delegation from the Northern Command of the Indian Army commenced its six days visit to China on 14 December 2015. The delegation is led by Lieutenant General DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command. Other members of the delegation includes Major General YK Joshi, a Brigadier and two Colonels from the Northern Command. The delegation commenced its visit with a high level meeting with General Qi Jianguo, Deputy Chief of General Staff, PLA Headquarters on 15 December 2015. The PLA side was also represented by Rear Admiral Guan Youfei, Chief of Foreign Affairs Office and Major General Sun Yuansheng of the Operations Department of General Staff Headquarters. Other officers from PLA General Headquarters Border Defence and Asian Affairs Bureau were also present.

2. Both sides stressed on the need to ensure peace and tranquility along the borders and hoped that both sides will further strengthen the bilateral defence exchanges by enhancing the frequency of interactions between the two armies. Both sides agreed that in the recent past, the political and military interaction between the two countries has increased which has been instrumental in achieving the aim of the leaders of both countries during their bilateral visits to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation. It was agreed to further cooperate on issues of fighting terrorism which is affecting both thecountries.

3. The delegation is also meeting General Liu Yuejun, Commander of Lanzhou Military Region and visit PLA military establishments at Xian and Shanghai.
