The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modidistributed Aids and Assistive Devices to more than 11000 Persons withDisabilities (Divyangjans) at Samajik Adikarita Shivir organized by Departmentof Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice& Empowerment in District- Navsari, Gujarat today. A mini-film based onDivyangjan, for motivation of people, was also screened. A Book named‘Challenge the Challenge’ containing details of various noteworthy Divyangjanswas also released. The children who have been able to speak and hear because ofcochlear implant surgery specially greeted the Prime Minister on his birthday.

The Governor of Gujarat Shri O P Kohli,Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Vijay Rupani, Union Minister of Social Justiceand Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Ministers of State for Social Justiceand Empowerment Shri Ramdas Athwale, Shri Krishna Pal Gurjar, Shri VijaySampla, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Women and Child Developmentof Gujarat Shri Atmaram Parmar, Protocol Minister of Gujarat Shri Pradip SinghJadeja, Member of Parliament Shri CR Patil, Shri Prabhubhai Valsava, Smt.Darshnaben Jardosh, Shri K C Patel and many dignitaries also attended theprogramme.

During the Camp, 3 Guinness World Recordswere created jointly by the Department of Empowerment of Persons withDisabilities (Divyangjan) and ALIMCO. First record got broken on 16th Septemberwith Highest number of oil lamps lit simultaneously at single location. Whereastwo other world record ‘Most people fitted with Hearing Aid in 8 hours – Singlelocation (600 Hearing Aid) and ‘Biggest Wheelchair Logo / Image with the helpof 1000 Wheelchairs got announced which make the event historical.

While addressing the large gatheringduring the programme, the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that bycreating Three (3) Guiness World Records, Navsari has carved it’s name ingolden letters. He further added that if the society is sensitive, the problemscould be resolved easily. Accessible India Campaign is also part of a chainwhich is making India accessible. ISLRTC established by the Department ofEmpowerment of Persons with Disabilities will lead to develop a common signlanguage. He appraised Indian Players won in Para-Olympic games andcongratulated them.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri VijayRupani said that with such camp held under the leadership of the PrimeMinister, the Divyangjans will be able to do their daily work with ease. Tomake the vision of the Prime Minister – ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’, a realityinfrastructure of India is being changed under Accessible India Campaign.

The Union Minister for Social Justice andEmpowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot said that today’s ADIP camp is the biggestof it’s type in which more than 11 thousand Divyangjans have received Aids andAssistive Devices. He also gave details regarding Cochlear Implant surgery andestablishment of Braille Press being established by the Department. Showing hispleasure over the victory of Indian Players in Para-Olympic Games, he said thatNational Sports Centres for Persons with Disabilities will be established.

In the 159th Mega ADIP Camp, which is sofar the biggest, 11330 Divyangjan beneficiaries have been benefitted. The campwhich is held under the ADIP Scheme of Ministry of Social Justice andEmpowerment, is in force since 1981. This has been revised and further adoptedfrom April, 01, 2014.

The main objective of the scheme is toprovide latest and modern aids manufactured by various agencies, such asNational Institutes, Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India[ALIMCO], District Disability Rehabilitation Centres, State HandicappedDevelopment Corporations, other local bodies and NGOs. These aids are beinggiven to the Divyangjans to promote their physical, social and psychologicalrehabilitation.

Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation[ALIMCO], a 100% owned Government of India Central Public Sector- under thedepartment of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities [Divyangjan], is a majorimplementing agency under the ADIP Scheme. ALIMCO has conducted need assessmentcamps of persons with disabilities residing in and around Navsari district withthe focus to cover maximum population of PwDs, specially from remote areas,with the help of district administration. The assessment camps of Navsaridistrict [ Navsari, Jamalpur, Khergam, Vansda, Gandevi, Chikhli] were held inthree phases : [1] from6th to 14th June, [2] from 19th to 23rd August, and [3]from 7th to 9th September, 2016 and identified the beneficiaries.

Besides, High-end-devices aimed atimparting education, training and information technology awareness were alsodistributed. During this period, more than 100 beneficiaries were givencertificates of training and loans by NHFDC. More than 100 beneficiaries wereavailed insurance policies under 'Niramaya' and other schemes of the NationalTrust. 20 Laptops were availed by NIMH located at Secunderabad. Below-mentioned aids and assistive devices were distributed by ALIMCO and other National Institutes:

50 Motorized Tricycles, 931 Tricycle,1388 Wheelchairs, 1442 Crutches, 960 Walking Stick, 407 Braille Cane, 2597 TLMKit, 64 Cerebral Palsy chair, 80 Braille Slate, 65 Braille Kit, 197 Rolletor(Adult and Child), 14 ADL Kit Leprosy, 870 Smartphone, 443 Daisy Player forVisual Impaired people, 3568 Hearing Aid – BTE Digital Programme, 788 Low VisionDevice.

In the programme, Secretary, Departmentof Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) Dr. Vinod Agrawal, ChiefSecretary of Gujarat Dr. J N Singh, Joint Secretary, DEPwD Shree Avanish KumarAwasthi, Officials of National Trust, various Corporations of the department,National Institutes and District Administration were also present.
