Press Release: Roundtable Meetings on India-China cooperation in IT 05/24/2017

A delegation of Indian Information Technology Companies led by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) visited Beijing from 22nd to 24th May 2017.

2. During this visit, the Embassy of India, Beijing, in conjunction with NASSCOM, organized two Round Table meetings on cooperation in Information Technology. Apart from these Round Table Meetings, the delegation also had official meetings with Chinese Government agencies like the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and Chinese industry associations in the IT sector like the China Software Industry Association (CSIA) and the Beijing Association of Sourcing Service (BASSCOM). In order to gain a better understanding of Chinese manufacturing capabilities, the delegation also undertook a site-visit to the factory of Beijing Automotive Group Company Limited in Beijing.

3. Embassy of India, Beijing partnered with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) to organize the first Round Table meeting with Chinese State Owned Enterprises on 23rd May 2017. This Round Table meeting witnessed an overwhelming response with around 20 of the most prominent State Owned Enterprises based in Beijing like Sinopec, State Grid, China Unicom, Dongfeng Motors, China Merchants Group and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) attending the event.

4. To enable the delegation to interact with the Private Sector in China, a second Round Table for new technology companies and start-ups was organized in collaboration with the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) on 24th May 2017. This round table meeting saw active participation by more than 20 Chinese companies like Mobike, Didi Chuxing, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, Changan Motors, LeEco, and Media Company Toutiao.

5. Speaking at the meetings, Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr Amit Narang spoke on the immense potential for collaboration between Chinese State Owned Enterprises and Indian IT companies, and the need for both countries to synergize their respective competitive advantages for mutual benefit. He highlighted the important role played by Private Companies in China’s economy and economic growth. He mentioned that Indian IT and ITES were world renowned and presented great opportunities for Chinese companies to collaborate and add value to their own products.

6. During the Round table with State Owned Enterprises, Representatives of China National Software & Service Company Limited, Petro-CyberWorks Information Technology Company Limited and State Grid Information and Telecommunication Group Company Limited gave detailed presentations outlining the potential complementarities and the scope for future cooperation. In the Round Table with the Private Sector Companies, Representatives of Mobike and Didi Chuxing made presentations on their respective companies and their future plans for expansion.

7. Mr. Gagan Sabharwal, Director, Global Trade Development from NASSCOM spoke on the need for Indian and Chinese enterprises to leverage their respective strengths in hardware and software to co-develop and co-create products for the global markets. He emphasized that NASSCOM remains committed to develop trust on both sides to promote this collaboration. Speaking post the events, Mr. Gagan Sabharwal, Director, Global Trade Development said that “that we are very pleased with the response from the Chinese side who participated in these discussions with enthusiasm and outlined areas where they seek to cooperate with the Indian IT firms. This is a very promising start.”
