Press Release: YOGA@GREAT WALL - 20 Jun '17 06/20/2017

On the eve of the International Day of Yoga, the Embassy of India, Beijing along with Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and Yogi Yoga successfully organized a Yoga@Great Wall event on the Juyongguan Great Wall on the morning of 20 June 2017. The event is a cultural milestone, marking the first time yoga has been performed atop the Great Wall by a joint Indian and Chinese group of yogis.

Minister of State for External Affairs Gen. (Dr) VK Singh (Retd.), who is visiting Beijing for the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting, spoke at and practiced yoga at the event. Minister of State Singh quoted Prime Minister Modi, saying that yoga was Indian civilization's gift to the world and benefited body and mind. Charge d'Affaires Shri Amit Narang and CPAFFC Vice-President Ms Lin Yi hailed the event for taking forward India-China friendly cultural exchanges and yoga for bringing wellness to humanity.

Around 200 Chinese and Indian participants then carried out the Common Yoga Protocol, followed by a spectacular display of advanced yoga poses by 20 young Indian yoga ambassadors from the Morarji Desai Institute in India, who are specially visiting China for International Day of Yoga celebrations.

The Yoga@Great Wall event is an awe-inspiring curtain-raiser for the Embassy's International Day of Yoga events. On 21 June, close to ~ 1000 people will practice yoga in Beijing's Central Business District.
