Press Releases Repatriation of Indian Nationals and Eligible OCI Card Holders

Repatriation of Indian Nationals and Eligible OCI Card Holders

December 03, 2020

Government of India has been facilitating stranded Indian nationals abroad to return to India under Vande Bharat Mission in a phased manner. The movement of persons in India desiring to return to work abroad, including to China, has been similarly facilitated in recent months.

However, as a result of the restrictions imposed by the Chinese government on November 05, 2020 (“Notice on Temporary Suspension of Certain Valid Chinese Visas ”), the operation of VBM flights to and from China has been affected. While the Embassy has been receiving numerous requests/ queries from Indian citizens wishing to return to China, this is a matter that is subject to a decision by the Chinese authorities. For its part, the Embassy is in constant touch with the Chinese side to work out a mutually acceptable mechanism that might lead to a resumption of VBM flights to China and will release information on the matter as soon as it is available. Prospective passengers are advised to continue following our social media pages and websites for updates on VBM flights or other mechanisms for travel between Indian and China.

Prospective passengers with valid visas can also avail the option of third country transit to reach China. Regarding the details on the requirementsfor third country transit to China, the relevant Chinese Embassy and/or Consulates can be contacted for necessary clarifications.
