EMBASSY OF INDIA
SPEECH BY AMBASSADOR BAMBAWALE
YOGA DAY AT SCO HEADQUARTERS
(16 June 2018)
Your Excellency, SCO Secretary General Alimov,
Ladies & Gentlemen,
I am delighted to welcome you to this morning’s event titled “Yoga Day at the SCO”. Today’s event commemorates the 4th UN International Day of Yoga, which falls on 21 June 2018. We are celebrating it a few days early.
2. India’s Yoga techniques have proved to be extremely important in ensuring a healthy and fulfilling life for millions of people across the globe. Yoga schools have sprouted all over the world including in SCO countries. The practice of Yoga and its benefits are becoming apparent to people in every corner of the world, including here in China where we even have a India-China Yoga School at the Yunnan Minzu University in Kunming.
3. We are gathered here this morning to celebrate International Day of Yoga by doing a few Yoga postures and exercises. Perhaps each one of us can continue to do so every day of the following year. Let us pledge to meet here again at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing one year from now. I am confident that if we practice every day for just 30 minutes, we will all be healthier when we meet a year from today.
I wish you all a happy “International Day of Yoga”.
